Your identity is equally important in all of this too.

In your first example, I don't really care that I have record that Tim O'Reilly linked to my blog as much as I care that his readers still do and that Google still does for a) my street cred and b) Google Page Rank c) for general link love and internet traffic.

In the Gmail example, I'd actually be pretty fucked if gmail.com went because that's my identity for a lot of services I use. If Google apps for your domain went not nearly as big an issue because I have all the mail on my personal computer and backed up. Maybe that's something for me to think about though;-) I think a lot of people would be in the same boat. But what about my @gmail.com Gtalk account what would happen with that? And as for Twitter.com/andrecharland well I suppose if me and all my contacts export our data and move to the same new service/platform then all good. If not I'm effed.

Glad we settled that issue;-)
